Madelaine Petsch & KJ Apa Ponder If Cheryl & Archie Are Actually Related on 'Riverdale'

Madelaine Petsch & KJ Apa Ponder If Cheryl & Archie Are Actually Related on 'Riverdale'

Since fans learned that Cheryl Blossom and Betty Cooper are cousins during the season one finale of Riverdale, there could be a chance that even more of the gang are related too.

So, when Glamour asked the resident redheads — Madelaine Petsch and KJ Apa — if their characters could be related on the show, it was sound.

While KJ wondered if they could be: “I’ve wondered that before”; Madelaine was over here shutting down that stereotype that all redheads are related.

“I personally think no. I know plenty of other redheads that I’m not related to personally, that I grew up with,” she told the mag.

Of the world’s population, less than 2% have red hair — Madelaine being one of those 140 million people, so it’s very unlikely that Cheryl and Archie are related.

“But you never know,” Madelaine added. “It is Riverdale. My whole theory now is it’s Riverdale. Anything can happen!”

KJ Apa & Madelaine Petsch Know Exactly Who Black Hood is on 'Riverdale'

KJ Apa & Madelaine Petsch Know Exactly Who Black Hood is on 'Riverdale'

The identity of Black Hood is the biggest mystery on Riverdale since Jason Blossom’s killer — and the stars actually already know who the person under the mask is.

When stars KJ Apa and Madelaine Petsch found out the identity of the masked killer, they both had very different reactions.

“I already knew. I guessed it,” KJ boasted a little to Glamour. “But everything is very…it’s hard to say.”

However, Madelaine was shocked at who it was.

“I didn’t guess it. When I read it, it shocked me, but you won’t have to wait much longer,” she promises. “A couple more episodes and the mystery will be revealed.”

Any more guesses on just who Black Hood is?

'Riverdale's New Black Hood Theory Suggests That Alice Cooper Isn't Betty's Biological Mom

'Riverdale's New Black Hood Theory Suggests That Alice Cooper Isn't Betty's Biological Mom

We’ve heard so many theories about just who Black Hood is on Riverdale, we started to just drown them out.

There was Dilton Doiley, Kevin Keller, Hal Cooper, even Sheriff Keller, too — but this brand new theory about Riverdale‘s own serial killer has us intrigued and suggests that Penny Peabody is the face underneath the mask — oh, and also Betty’s biological mom!

In the new theory, reddit user -lCrackers suggests that the South Side’s shady lawyer is actually Betty’s biological mom and that Penny and Alice are half-sisters.

-lCrackers’s theory goes on to suggest that Alice took Betty away from Penny when she was born because she didn’t think she could handle a child; and now Penny is seeking revenge on Alice for taking Betty and for painting the South Side as this criminal hotbed.

Hmmm….what do you think of this theory? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Lili Reinhart Reveals There's a Reason Betty Isn't Wearing Her Ponytail So High on 'Riverdale'

Lili Reinhart Reveals There's a Reason Betty Isn't Wearing Her Ponytail So High on 'Riverdale'

Lili Reinhart‘s Betty Cooper has gone through hell and back again on Riverdale so far this season.

The actress chatted with Bustle about the psychological effects that doing Black Hood’s bidding is having on Betty — and it’s not good.

“It brought me closer to Betty; it made me feel like I got to know her better on a personal level,” she shared. “It wasn’t Betty’s interaction with anyone else, it was just focusing on her and all the different shades and sides of her and her darkness. It made me feel a lot closer to the character that I play, which is an opportunity that I don’t think people get to have.”

Working with Black Hood to protect herself and her friends has also taken a toll on Betty’s look. Did anyone notice how her ponytail isn’t as high and the dark circles under her eyes?

“I wanted to show Betty’s emotional state through her appearance. I remember reading episode 5 and calling down and saying in the last scene when she has broken things off with everyone, I want to be in a pale sweater and I want to look completely washed out, I want to have barely any makeup on. I want to look like a hollow person,” Lili says.

“I wanted her to look hollow because she is at the end, because she has no one,” she adds. “The Black Hood has completely ripped apart everything that she thought about who she was and made her rethink who she was.”

Lili continues, “My hair changes: at first she tries to put on a facade like things are OK then progressively throughout the episode the hair comes down, it is in a low pony, then my makeup starts to dissipate as well, and added some dark under eye circles to help give that hollow look.”

Meanwhile, after breaking up their friendship, Betty (Lili Reinhart) turns back to Veronica (Camila Mendes) for help when she’s thrust into the center of a burgeoning mystery surrounding The Sugarman.

Finally, Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) confronts her mother Penelope (Nathalie Boltt) after a traumatic run-in forces her to make a stark realization.

KJ Apa Heard The Craziest 'Riverdale' Black Hood Theory Yet

KJ Apa Heard The Craziest 'Riverdale' Black Hood Theory Yet

KJ Apa and Camila Mendes huddle together under an umbrella while filming new scenes for Riverdale this week on set in Vancouver, Canada.

The on-screen couple bundled up in large puffer jackets and hid from the rain outside under a few huge umbrellas.

Speaking with Nerdist recently, KJ confessed that he heard possibly the craziest theory about who Black Hood actually is on the show.

“I saw a good one that Vegas was actually the Black Hood, and that was pretty funny,” he shared. “I saw that on Twitter somewhere.”

If you don’t know, Vegas is actually the Andrews’ family dog!

KJ added about the other theories out there, “I did see some pretty crazy theories, but none of them have been right so far that I’ve seen.”

'Riverdale' Showrunner Talks About The Aftermath of Cheryl's Assault

'Riverdale' Showrunner Talks About The Aftermath of Cheryl's Assault

While Riverdale isn’t set in a particular era, the show took on a timely subject in sexual assault.

Showrunner Roberto Aguire Sacasa opened up to Variety about the storyline and how the show is going to handle the consequences for Nick St. Clair and touch on Cheryl’s state of mind.

“No one loves these characters more than I do — no one treasures them more than I do. So I think we try to handle things with care, but they are teenagers, and teenagers do bad things,” Roberto explained on why they chose to take on the touchy subject manner.

“We try to not do it for shock and salacious reasons,” he adds. “We try to make sure it comes out of an emotionally true place for the character, that it’s earned, and that we follow through on all of these things.”

For Cheryl and Nick, this won’t just be a one and done episode, it’s going to go on for the whole season.

“We thought, ‘Wow, this is actually a huge, deep story that can continue for not just Cheryl but Veronica, their parents, and Archie.’ So far, it’s something we’ve been tracking through the rest of the season.”

Riverdale airs Wednesdays on The CW.
